My home made solar and battery generator setup. I made this 345 amp Hour 12 VDC setup. It has a 2000W (4000W peak) inverter and three 27DC deep cell batteries in parallel. Solar panels are 45 watt. Total cost was about 0. The inverter and panels/controller are from Harbor Freight, Batteries can be found most anywhere and the rest I had. If you do this be SURE to use at LEAST #4 ga wire on the 12 volt side as the amps will get very high under a heavy load. Do not even consider using less than #4 ga and #2 ga is even better. Make sure the batteries are the same size as eachother within the bank.
This device I made due to recent floods in Queensland Australia and the Tsunami that Hit Japan in which left thousands without power, this could happen to anyone or anywhere in the world. Some call it a useless device, some say why, and some laugh at it, but the fact is who is laughing once your dying from a disaster with no communication, no lighter, no power, no music or video entertainment, no lighting, no phone charging, no Internet and the list goes on. That's just pure ignorance that it may never happen to you!. This could save your life!! This device is self generating solar power station that can power small appliances from 12 volt to 240 volt devices, provide lighting, UHF and Internet communication, USB charging for iPhone, iPod or any other USB devices, plays a USB rechargeable music player, has radio for broadcast information, scans police and other channels for updates of information in case of a disaster, can communicate with emergency services and general public using UHF radio frequencies, has a lighter for fire cooking purposes if you don't have a lighter, has a backup battery in case there is no sun to recharge the power station, has a long life 12 volt battery from a high powered Radiology machine plus spares, has 12 volt sockets for many other devices, can charge your laptop which has full encyclopedias on medical, electrical, engineering, survival and many other survival and helpful information, a high powered 24db gain wireless antennae which both ...
Review of the xantrex xpower powerpack solar. The power pack solar is a mobile power pack that houses both ac and dc power outlets and features a 5 watt solar panel for green recharging. The unit is very well made and is slim enough to fit away in a corner or closet when not in use. The powerpack solar packs many high end features like, a 400 watt power inverter, 12 volt dc out, usb out and very bright led lights. At the heart of the powerpack solar is the 10 amp hour 12 volt sealed lead acid battery, which is good enough to provide a few hours of power to laptops, tv's and other ac appliances. The battery can go longer when paired with low powered ac devices, like alarm systems and wireless routers. The 10 amp hour battery really shines when it comes to dc appliances. I was able to run a small 10 watt (0.8 amp) dc fan for well over 11 hours and still had usable power left in the powerpack. This means in an emergency, you would most likely want to use the dc ports and the built in led lights for many hours of use. I have used and played around with my powerpack solar for well over a month before I posted the review and have had noting less than an wonderful experience. The powerpack solar has served me well and was almost used in a power outage (too bad the outage lasted only 30 seconds). From my experience with other xantrex products and other mobile powerpacks in the past, I expect this unit to give me years of service before needing a replacement battery (5 years on ...
