My dad wants to replace his gas heat with electric, powered with solar energy.....i told him it is a bad idea, but I attempted to estimate the cost.... I did some calculations, based off some numbers i found off the internet. I am not sure if i'm doing it right.
So he uses 380 mcf/month of natural gas which i converts to 3800 CCF/month
(100 cubic feet in ccf....1000 cubic feet in mcf)
1 ccf of natural gas is about 1 therm
1 therm is 29305.5 watt-hour
I divided by 30 to find out 1 day and get 3.7*10^6 watt-hr
(3800 ccf *29305.5 / 30)
Conservative estimates for solar panels are 5 hours of maximum sun...
3.7*10^6 watt-hr / 5 hr = 7.4*10^5 watt
*********
Not sure if i did that correctly
***********
4.82 $/watt * 7.4*10^5 watt = 3.6 million $$
Thanks.
